    Argument

Sora's journey in Kingdom Hearts II has ended. Now, a new story is about to begin. Jiminy Cricket reviews the diary he used to document his first adventure with Sora, in which there was only one sentence "Thank Naminé" and discovers another mysterious message that he did not write that says: "We must go back to ease his pain." King Mickey is determined to solve the mystery so he and his friends decide to digitize the diary and delve into its secrets. With the computer they create "Binarama", a digital world based on the diary that contains some of the worlds through which Sora and his friends traveled in their first adventures. During the process of digitizing the Diary, viruses in the form of cubes called Error Blocks appear and hinder the mission of deciphering the mysterious message. Luckily, within the Binarama there is a second Sora, a Digital Sora. Mickey entrusts him with the mission to explore the Diary from within and Sora Digital, although puzzled, accepts.

    Game system

    Hollow Bastion

In the virtual area of the game that represents Hollow Bastion, the player will control Digital Sora, who has lost his Keyblade. Instead of his usual attacks, Sora will have special commands for Donald and Goofy, such as "Destroy the blocks", "Attack the enemies" or "Follow Sora". Over the course of the fight, Sora's commands switch to attacks from Donald and Goofy, which will vary as the occasion requires.

    Trunk Commands

Kingdom Hearts Re: coded has a subsystem called the Assembler, which allows Sora to combine two of his commands to create a more powerful one in the style of Birth by Sleep.

On the Assembler screen, you can choose two commands from the list and put them in the blue holes. The result is shown in the lower box in red, and if the player decides to carry out the process, they will lose the two commands used, although the new command will offer some type of bonus.

As happened in Birth by Sleep, it is not possible to combine all the commands as is. Before a commando can be fused, it must gain combat experience, and when it has enough PCs, it will have an exclamation mark next to its name. These commands are the ones that the player can combine.

This system should not be confused with the Motherboard, which allows Sora to level up and grant him certain improvements, such as higher HP, Pyro damage, etc.

    World selection

When the player manages to finish a world, it will appear on the world selection screen.

Doing so opens up new options in the world, namely "Free Mission" (return to the world with the new parts of the System Area unlocked) "Re-play Episode" (to repeat the history of the world without having to restart the game) and "Beat points." (repeat boss fight to increase score).

During "Free Mission" mode you can talk to the inhabitants of the world and receive rewards for what you did during the story or for finishing some side missions.

The game shows the progress you have made in each world, specifying the number of missions, system areas, rare prize blocks, and rewards that you have earned.

    Avatar mode

Although Re: coded lacks multiplayer modes, it does have Wi-Fi components that allow you to swap Avatars and challenge floors with other players.

Challenge floors are special little areas that you can customize thanks to the Tag Mode options page. Depending on the code you use, the floor can end up being higher, more labyrinthine, with more enemies ... in addition, an extra challenge can also be proposed, which will give extra Avatars parts to the person who receives the floor and fulfills it.

The floors received through this mode are combined into a special System Area, the "Avatar System Area", a 100-story dungeon. Every ten floors there will be a boss that will award many more points, and of course the difficulty will increase as you advance.

To finish each floor of the Avatar System Area, you must kill all the enemies present. Once this is done, you can choose to advance to the next floor or exit and return to normal play. Each deck can be replayed once the deck has been completed for the first time.

Thanks to the points you get in the Avatar System Area it is possible to buy objects and commands, but if you die on one of the floors, you will lose all the points you had up to that moment.

During the exchange with another person, their corresponding avatar will appear on the lower screen. It is possible to touch it to receive a "Scratch Card", which with a bit of luck may contain commands or parts of the avatars.

These avatars have a happiness system. The more times you use Tag mode, the happier your avatar will be, which will be reflected in Sora, who will receive an increase to his Luck stat. This will allow the player to obtain items from enemies more easily.

It is also possible that the avatar menu is infected with a virus. If this happens, the player's avatar will lose its happiness and will not be able to increase it. It is possible to eliminate the virus, and for this you have to complete any floor of the Avatar System Area. However, during an infection, the enemies will be stronger.
