Axel, nicknamed "Burst of Dancing Flames", is number VIII of Organization XIII. Control fire, and employ two chakrams as primary weapons. He has the Assassin Nobodies under his service.

Appearance

Axel is a tall, athletic young man with a slim build and long spiky hair of a deep red color. He has blue-green eyes, and two inverted tear-shaped cheek marks. He wears the typical Organization XIII raincoat with a unique variant: The sleeves are tighter to the arms than those of any member, and its shape can lead to think that it can carry protection on the arms, such as gauntlets. The sleeves end up practically joining the gloves.

Personality

Axel is a special Nobody. Unlike his companions, he does not remember anything about his past before becoming a Nobody, only his name, but apparently he does retain part of his feelings. Axel can be cruel and merciless in combat, in keeping with his disembodied nature, but he does not tolerate betrayals and forms strong bonds with the people around him. They tend to have a carefree and dismissive air, as well as mocking and defiant. He is very good friends with Roxas. Before that he also had a great friendship with Saïx, which gradually fades, because Saïx is cold and cruel and his methods are not to Axel's liking. Axel is a born warrior and never refuses a fight, handling his element to perfection and becoming a fearsome, fast and red-hot rival.

A crucial part of Axel's personality is born thanks to his friendship with Roxas and Xion, a bond that would allow him to move away from his condition of incorporeal without feelings that united him to Saïx and to realize, thanks to those meetings in the clock tower that a incorporeal if he can feel the bliss of friendship. Friendship that would later lead him, thanks to his loyalty to Roxas, to first ignore his mission within the organization and later even completely betray it in order to save his friend. In the end we can see how his loyalty leads him to a tragic sacrifice, proving for the last time that instead of being a villain he ends up becoming a martyr.

Enigmatic individual who stands in Sora's way. It may sound giddy and simple, but the truth is that his machinations have caused more trouble than all the others put together.

Arms

Axel's weapons are two Chakrams, similar to shurikens, ninja stars. They consist of two discs surrounded by steel points that, brandishing them surrounded by flames, can put the enemy in a hurry.

Axel can withstand high temperatures without taking damage, and set Chakrams on fire in an instant. Chakrams, it seems, can be introduced into a body and explode, being able to regenerate (this is shown when Axel eliminates Vexen, in the comic). Axel can summon a large circle of fire, set the stage on fire, turn the ground to lava, and summon his weapons with sparks and explosions.

Axel can cause a surprising blast of fire, but, as seen, an explosion of such magnitude with forces in half reserve wiped out him.

In 358/2 Days, Axel's Chakrams are of various shapes and can change as if they were Keyblade keychains. The names of Axel's Chakrams are related to fire and heat.

Its main weapon receives the name of "Eternal Flames". His joke weapons are "Pizza Slice" and "Conformists". Axel has a habit of swinging one of his right hand Chakrams absentmindedly while idle. The Eternal Flames have a more dynamic appearance than the other Chakrams.

Curiosities

Axel was originally supposed to die at the end of Roxas' story in Twilight Town in Kingdom Hearts II, but the creators had liked this character so much that they delayed his death until almost the final stage of the game's story.
Axel's most characteristic phrase: "Got it memorized?" which translated into Spanish is "Do you catch it?", originally in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories in the English version, it was "Commit it to memory" but then in later games the phrase was changed to the one that many of us know.
We can see how the friendship of Roxas and Axel closes in a certain aspect that started by Ventus and Lea (being complete with Axel) and the promise made to continue with their friendship. Promise that is fulfilled through time and space as a prophecy because a fraction of them ends up establishing a great friendship that will hopefully continue in the third installment of the saga.
Axel tends to scratch the back of his neck when talking to his friends.
